James and the Giant Peach

28 July 2010

JAMES AND THE GIANT PEACH

By Roald Dahl, adapted by David Wood

Illyria brings the world's most popular children's author, Roald Dahl, to the open-air stage.

James is an orphan who is sent to live with his two terrible aunts. But when the peach tree in the garden sprouts a single peach which grows and grows and grows, James befriends some very peculiar insects, breaks free from the clutches of his aunts and embarks on the adventure of a lifetime.

2010 marks Illyria's 19th open-air touring season. In 1997 it was the first UK open-air theatre company to tour annual productions of children's classics alongside its regular programme.

It has been awarded Critics Choice for both The Emperor's New Clothes and The Wind in the Willows, while The Reluctant Dragon, Alice in Wonderland, Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves!, Robin Hood and Pinocchio all played to sell-out audiences and widespread acclaim.

David Wood OBE, dubbed the national children's dramatist by Irving Wardle in The Times, has written over fifty plays for children, many of which have been performed all over the world. His adaptation captures all the fun and excitement of Roald Dahl's superb children's classic, and includes plenty of opportunities for participation!

Illyria's most eagerly awaited family show is funny, exciting and suitable for all ages 5+
