Living Heritage

Escot is privately owned which allows the Kennaway family to set their own Living Heritage agenda. As custodians of this beautiful corner of East Devon, they have pursued a vigorous programme of researching and recording the history of the estate on a continuing programme of restoration of the built and the natural environment, and on education.

In all these activities, Escot takes great care to treat Nature sensitively.  After all, Escot is known as the Natural place...

This section illustrates some of the current activities and more are planned. We are always pleased to receive proposals for similar projects.

New for 2010 - CAMP WILD

This is Escot Park's very own summer camp. Based in our brand new yurt village, children will explore the great outdoors within a safe, adventure-filled environment. Activities will be led by qualified and professional staff on the 1100 acre Escot Park estate and off site on the Devon coast. Residential and Day Camps are available in July and August.

We want your children to experience something distinct and special. We know what adventure means to children and we understand that summer is supposed to be fun. For children, Camp Wild is pure enjoyment. It really is as wild as it sounds! For more information visit www.escotcampwild.co.uk email: campwild@escot-devon.co.uk  or call Escot 01404 822188

Otter Valley Harvest Hub

The Otter Valley Harvest Hub is an exciting new community project based at Escot. It's permaculture-for-everyone and aims to raise enthusiasm locally for grow your own and to provide an educational centre of excellence on the subject.  As the programme evolves, it will see the historic walled garden restored to the food and flower production role they enjoyed in centuries gone by, and the greenhouses will also be gradually restored.

In these early days, the organisers are keen to recruit volunteers, so if you have an interest, or just to find out more, please see www.harvesthub.blogspot.com

Edcott - The Anglo-Saxon Village at Escot

An Anglo-Saxon village is under construction here at Escot Park. Over the coming years a living history site will enable individuals and groups to investigate and experience the day-to-day life of our ancestors.

A particular emphasis will be placed on comparing the sustainability of ancient vs. modern lifestyles.

Keen to learn more? Alan, with his Escot Education hat on, is offering weekend courses during Winter/Spring on Greenwood Working skills, Pole Lathe skills, Wild Fire Making and making a Longbow.
