2023 in review

2023 was another busy year for the Escot team!

We were particularly busy with conferences this year, welcoming local businesses and organisations to enjoy our peaceful location for their events, which included some fantastic teambuilding days in partnership with Devon Country Pursuits.

2023 was also a great year for weddings, with numerous couples tying the knot at Escot House, the majority of which took place between May and September. Congratulations to all the newlyweds. We also hosted several private parties.

A number of foraging events took place between March and May, making the most of all the bounty available on the Estate.

In June, it was the return of Exeter Foodies Festival, a three-day event features live cooking demos from top chefs drawn from the ranks of TV’s MasterChef, Great British Bake Off and Great British Menu, plus top-rated Michelin-starred and award-winning chefs plus live music from chart topper Sophie Ellis-Bextor and noughties platinum-selling Toploader.

In August Beautiful Days celebrated the festival’s 20th Anniversary in style. Tickets went like hot cakes, selling out in April, well ahead of the event. It was an amazing line up, which included Suede, Primal Scream, Johnny Marr, Levellers, Gaz Coombes, Gok Wan, Ozric Tentacles, Oysterband, Dreadzone, Indigo Girls, The Dead South – the list goes on and on! The Sunday Theme, Out of this World, was embraced by festival goers in oh so many ways. We look forward to the 21st festival, August 16th to 18th.

Pups galore arrived on the Estate for the Pup Up Café in September. Hay bale racing, flyball, demos from Search and Rescue, dog agility and lots of friendly competitions made for a great day out for the pooches and their owners.

In December, we welcomed Exeter Wheelers and the South West Cyclocross League who ran the South West Championships. There were almost 200 riders on the Estate with plenty of spectators, family and friends. The following weekend the annual ‘Extremely Jolly’ 10K run took place, with 195 runners participating.

Moving into 2024, this is actually the 30th anniversary of our first wedding at Escot, which took place in April 1994 when Cindy married Pete!

Watch this space for news of more events coming up this year – and we wish everyone a Happy New Year.
