Small is Beautiful!

Not everyone wants a huge wedding! While some couples invite everyone that they know (including Great Aunt Agatha) to join them in their celebrations, others prefer to keep it small.

There are various reasons behind the decision to have a smaller wedding:

  • You’re getting remarried
  • You’re older and wiser
  • You’re on a budget
  • You want to use your money for a once-in-a-lifetime honeymoon
  • You simply want to keep it low key.

A smaller wedding means you have time to spend with your guests. You won’t be spending your day trying to say hello to everyone and worrying that you’ve left anyone out.

Undoubtedly a small wedding reduces the stress factor. There are less unknowns to control, less chaos!

Venue choice

Whatever your reason, your first consideration will be to find a venue that is happy to accept a small wedding. Many larger venues won’t be able to take your booking; they are mainly interested in large weddings with the full works.

But this doesn’t mean you should settle for less. If you’re looking for a Devon wedding venue with the wow factor for your small wedding, Escot House could be the answer to your dreams. Whilst (of course) we love to host a big wedding, we also think it’s only fair to offer our facilities for smaller celebrations, too.

Escot House has a fantastic atmosphere with large generously proportioned rooms and lots of natural light. But it’s not imposing – rather, it offers a relaxed environment where you will feel at ease, able to kick back and enjoy your time with your friends – however many you choose to invite. With a terrace, gardens, and a view over the park and lake, your small wedding will feel as big as you like.

With a smaller wedding, you can be less extravagant with your catering. An afternoon tea with sandwiches and Devon cream teas may do the trick, or how about a selection of delicate canapes. We will still prepare a full wedding breakfast if that’s what you prefer. As you have fewer guests, perhaps you can splash out more on your wine and fizz.

Fun & games

With a smaller crowd, you might like to book some of the activities we offer at Escot - archery or clay shooting anyone? Or perhaps your guests would enjoy a bird of prey display. We're still waiting for the first couple to arrive at the house on a Segway (it's all possible!).

If you’re planning an intimate wedding but want a feeling of relaxed grandeur for your special day, Escot House could be the Devon wedding venue you’re looking for.
