The benefits of a day wedding venue

As a wedding venue Escot doesn’t provide accommodation. The house is also a home, and the Kennaway family has always lived in the upper floors. This does make Escot an ideal choice for local couples who want a superb celebration in a characterful venue, without the cost of accommodation. Escot House is a wonderfully affordable option – as the many couples who have married here will agree. As a special treat, the newly weds could be whisked away to The Pig Hotel in nearby Gittisham, where they can enjoy a relaxing stay and a leisurely morning, without the need to pack and leave early as can happen in hotels that host weddings (when the next wedding party arrives!) For other guests, we are lucky that there are plenty of accommodation options locally, from beautiful hotels to B&Bs, guesthouses, pub accommodation, glamping and, of course, self-catering options. Some of these are listed on our accommodation page, but this is not exhaustive and we can give more options if needed. Guests drinking at the reception will need to book a taxi in good time. We always say that for guests coming from further afield to a wedding in Devon, there is a fantastic opportunity to enjoy a minibreak in our beautiful part of the world. By booking your own accommodation you are not tied into the constraints of a wedding hotel – you can stay as long as suits you. So, what’s to explore? The coastline of course! From the stony shores of Sidmouth to the sandy stretches at Exmouth, our local Devon beaches are unbeatable. Take in a section of the South West Coast Path, there are plenty of starting points. Family attractions abound in East Devon: The Donkey Sanctuary, Crealy Theme Park (which also has accommodation), Pecorama and, right on our doorstep, Wildwood. If you’re staying for a while, you can take day trips to Dartmoor and explore the National Maritime Museum at Plymouth. While a day wedding venue doesn’t suit everyone, it’s the perfect option for others. If you save money by getting married at Escot, you can spend it on your honeymoon – fingers crossed for overseas holidays again soon. We’re available to chat, with showrounds on the cards for May. Just get in contact and we’ll tell you all you need to know!
