On May 22nd, we were really pleased to host the first wedding at Escot since the pandemic hit. In fact, it was a whole 18 months since the last one!
The wedding was originally booked for August 2020, then moved to May 15th before the final date was set. We were happy to be as flexible as possible, under these extraordinary circumstances. The couple were married at 3pm in The Library, the room traditionally used for this part of a wedding. The party of 30 guests then enjoyed drinks and canapes outside on the terrace. We always say May is a wonderful time of year, as the Estate and our gardens look beautiful with so many late spring blooms, and the buttercups across the grounds.
The wedding meal was a BBQ, based on a Caribbean theme. Guests enjoyed swordfish kebabs, Calypso chicken, spicey BBQ ribs and, of course, sausages with lots of lovely fresh salads! Unusually these days, there were no vegetarians at the wedding. For dessert we created jars of fresh fruit with passion fruit cream. Thanks to our local suppliers, Gibbons for the meat and Westcountry for the fruit and veg.
We asked Lady Kennaway (aka Lucy) how it felt to have a wedding in the house after such a long break. “We were really excited to get going again. It was lovely to see the house filled with people – everyone was happy, the guests were delighted to be there and to be able to do something relatively normal again. I was really pleased to receive so many compliments on the food, reminding me that I haven’t lost my touch!”
So huge congratulations from all at Escot House to Sara and George, we wish you a long and happy life together. Thank you for celebrating your special day at Escot. We are thrilled that weddings are back!
Although we don’t have photos of the actual wedding yet, we look forward to sharing these in the future.
