Whether you are a fan of the Royal Family or not, you can’t have missed the build up to the Royal Wedding over the past few weeks.
There are some who say choosing the same day as the FA Cup Final was a slight error; Prince William who is President of the Football Association, would usually be at the football final awarding the FA Cup trophy to the winners (Chelsea or Man United, who do you think?). The latest reports say that he won’t, as was rumoured at one point, be leaving the wedding early to get to the last part of the big game!
For Devonians, there’s also the excitement of the Exeter Chiefs playing in the Aviva Premiership Semi-Final at Sandy Park, with kick off at 3.30pm. Fingers crossed for the Chiefs, who have been in winning form all season.
When you’re planning your own wedding, it’s a good idea to check dates like this before you book your venue. Royal Weddings may not be such an issue, but high profile sporting events have been known to cause one or two problems, not least the groom sneaking off at the reception to find a TV screen.
If you are planning two or three years ahead you clearly don’t have a magic mirror to look in to see the future, but you can still make a note of events such as the Grand National, European Cup, World Cup, Formula One key races, Olympics, football or rugby finals, and avoid these if you can.
Most of these events are held during a weekend, so you can always consider a Friday wedding if you want to play safe. Then those who want to stay on and take a long weekend to relax after your wedding can, and those that absolutely must watch or attend a sporting event, will be able to. Even if they have a sore head!
