Winter Weddings

More and more couples are deciding to tie the knot away from the popular summer wedding season. There are lots of good reasons for this;

  • Not clashing with other weddings
  • Potential guests away on summer holidays
  • More venue options
  • Accommodation availability

Winter weddings offer lots of opportunity for style and fun.

Decorate your venue with winter themes; use twigs entwined by fairy lights and opt for silvers and whites in your table decorations. If you prefer a warm ambiance, plump for golds, orange and red. Use wreaths on the doors if the venue allows, again with fairy lights for a pretty touch.

Reflect these themes in your bridesmaids’ dresses; silver for cool chic or gold for a touch of luxury. If you want a warmer feel, go for rich colours such as burgundy or even chocolate. Choose white fluffy boleros or wraps to keep them warm for those outdoor photos. For the effervescent bride, white fluffy bridal slippers and white nail varnish are a fun combination – or for something completely different, white DMs!

Make sure your venue has good heating – a roaring log fire will keep your guests toastie warm. Escot’s log fires always go down a storm at weddings and other events.

Ask the Escot team to create a winter cocktail for you; this can be used to greet your guests. How about a Winter Spiced Old Fashioned, with Bourbon, orange bitters, aromatic bitters and a spiced syrup, garnished with a cinnamon stick?

If your wedding is in December, there’s every reason to have a Christmas tree or two! Many venues will have a Christmas tree anyway, but you could add some mini trees with decorations to reflect your theme, wedding favours or amusing photos of you and your guests.

Your wedding breakfast should reflect the season anyway, but you can add seasonal notes, such as mini mince pies and mulled wine or cider. Add small pine cones, snowflake sprinkles, holly with red berries to your table to really give a feel of winter.

The day will get dark sooner, so make the most of it with lots more fairy lights – and have some sparklers to hand. If you’re fortunate enough to have a dry, chilly day, your guests will love quick a dash outside with sparklers to write messages to the happy couple!

For your wedding favours, think about seasonal ideas such as gingerbread biscuits (you could have a his ‘n her gingerbread couple), pretty macarons or scrumptious Bailey’s filled chocolates.

Don’t forget to sprinkle some mistletoe in key spots around your venue. It will create some great photo opportunities and may promote romance among your guests as the day goes on.

We love winter weddings at Escot, so if you’re looking for a Devon wedding venue in 2019 or further in the future, please come and take a look. Now is a great time to get the feel of Escot for your winter wedding.
